Famous military quotes by branch (Army, USAF, USMC, USN, USCG) | New Veteran Owned Business feature!

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Veteran Owned Business has added a new section to our military tribute portal!

In celebration of National Military Appreciation Month, we have added a famous military quotes section to our military tribute portal.

Here are some of our favorites from each branch:

“All through your Army careers, you men have bitched about what you call ‘chicken shit drilling’. That, like everything else in this Army, has a definite purpose. That purpose is alertness. Alertness must be bred into every soldier. … You men are veterans or you wouldn’t be here. You are ready for what’s to come.”
General George Smith Patton, Jr.
Check out our full US Army quote section!

“A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy two weeks ago – there’s no such thing as a former Marine. You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life. But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There’s no such thing as a former Marine.”
General James F. Amos
Check out our full  US Marine Corps quote section!

“I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: ‘I served in the United States Navy.’”
President John F. Kennedy

Check out our full  US Navy quote section!

“Our warriors are no longer limited to the people who fly the airplanes … Our entire force is a warrior force. Being a warrior is not an AFSC, …it’s a condition of the heart.”
General John P. Jumper

Check out our full  US Air Force quote section!

“Adaptability is a characteristic of the American fighting man that has enabled this country’s Armed Forces to emerge triumphant in every major war we have fought. Adaptability is synonymous with the operations of the United States Coast Guard.”
Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz

Check out our full  US Coast Guard quote section!

“There are some who’ve forgotten why we have a military. It’s not to promote war, it’s to be prepared for peace.”
President Ronald Reagan

Memorial Day 2012 | Veteran Owned Business Military Observance Announcement

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service.  In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries.  A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.  Another tradition is to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff from dawn until noon local time.   For many Americans, the central event is attending one of the thousands of parades held on Memorial Day in large and small cities all over the country.  Most of these feature marching bands and an overall military theme with the National Guard and other servicemen participating along with veterans and military vehicles from various wars.

The National Memorial Day Concert takes place on the west lawn of the United States Capitol at 8PM EST.  Music is performed and respect is paid to the men and women who gave their lives for their country.  This years performers and hosts  include:

  • Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan Taylor in the Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump)
  • Joe Mantegna (FBI Special Agent David Rossi in the CBS drama Criminal Minds)
  • General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.) (65th U.S. Secretary of State)
  • Maestro Jack Everly (Music Director of the National Memorial Day Concert)
  • The National Symphony Orchestra (John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts)
  • Military District of Washington (Premier Service Bands and Service Honor Guards)
  • U.S. Army Herald Trumpets (Official fanfare ensemble for the President of the United States)
  • The U.S. Army Chorus  (Vocal counterpart of The U.S. Army Band)
  • The Soldiers’ Chorus of The United States Army Field Band (Vocal complement of the United States Army Field Band)
  • U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters (Official chorus of the United States Navy)
  • U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants (Official chorus of the United States Air Force)

Rest on embalmed and sainted dead!
Dear as the blood ye gave;
No impious footstep shall here tread
The herbage of your grave;
Nor shall your glory be forgot
While fame her records keeps,
Or Honor points the hallowed spot
Where Valor proudly sleeps.

Armed Forces Day May 19th 2012 | Veteran Owned Business Military Observance Announcement

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department — the Department of Defense. Each of the military leagues and orders was asked to drop sponsorship of its specific service day in order to celebrate the newly announced Armed Forces Day. The Army, Navy and Air Force leagues adopted the newly formed day. The Marine Corps League declined to drop support for Marine Corps Day but supports Armed Forces Day, too.

In a speech announcing the formation of the day, President Truman “praised the work of the military services at home and across the seas” and said, “it is vital to the security of the nation and to the establishment of a desirable peace.” In an excerpt from the Presidential Proclamation of Feb. 27, 1950, Mr. Truman stated:

Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 1950, marks the first combined demonstration by America’s defense team of its progress, under the National Security Act, towards the goal of readiness for any eventuality. It is the first parade of preparedness by the unified forces of our land, sea, and air defense.

The theme of the first Armed Forces Day was “Teamed for Defense.” It was chosen as a means of expressing the unification of all the military forces under a single department of the government. Although this was the theme for the day, there were several other purposes for holding Armed Forces Day. It was a type of “educational program for civilians,” one in which there would be an increased awareness of the Armed Forces. It was designed to expand public understanding of what type of job is performed and the role of the military in civilian life. It was a day for the military to show “state-of-the-art” equipment to the civilian population they were protecting. And it was a day to honor and acknowledge the people of the Armed Forces of the United States.

According to a New York Times article published on May 17, 1952: “This is the day on which we have the welcome opportunity to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces … to all the individuals who are in the service of their country all over the world. Armed Forces Day won’t be a matter of parades and receptions for a good many of them. They will all be in line of duty and some of them may give their lives in that duty.”

The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by parades, open houses, receptions, and air shows. In Washington D.C., 10,000 troops of all branches of the military, cadets, and veterans marched pass the President and his party. In Berlin, 1,000 U.S. troops paraded for the German citizens at Templehof Airfield. In New York City, an estimated 33,000 participants initiated Armed Forces Day “under an air cover of 250 military planes of all types.” In the harbors across the country were the famed mothballed “battlewagons” of World War II, the Missouri, the New Jersey, the North Carolina, and the Iowa, all open for public inspection. Precision flying teams dominated the skies as tracking radar were exhibited on the ground. All across the country, the American people joined together to honor the Armed Forces.

Below are some of the themes and ideas that have prevailed over past Armed Forces Days:

  • Appreciation of a Nation
  • Arsenal of Freedom and Democracy
  • Dedication and Devotion
  • Deter if Possible, Fight if Necessary
  • Freedom
  • Freedom Through Unity
  • Guardians of Peace
  • Lasting Peace
  • Liberty
  • Patriotism
  • Pillars of Freedom
  • Power for Peace
  • Prepared to Meet the Challenge
  • Professionalism
  • Protectors of Freedom
  • Realistic Deterrence
  • Representatives of the World’s Mightiest Democracy
  • Security
  • Special Opportunity for Thanks
  • Teamed for Defense

United States Navy commemorates the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of our National Anthem

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Attention Veteran Owned Business Members and Visitors:

From 2012 to 2015, the United States Navy and its partners will commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of our National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.  It is remarkable that 200 years ago, the first declared war in our nation’s history was fought against the two nations which have become our closest allies.  Many things change in 200 years, but what doesn’t change is the importance of sea power in the affairs of maritime nations.

Since its birth in 1776, the United States has always been a maritime nation, which means that unobstructed access to and free use of the world’s oceans are essential to our national welfare and prosperity.  That’s what the United States went to war in 1812 to defend, and that is what the United States Navy has been protecting ever since.

Why is keeping the seas free so important? Here are a few facts about the world:

  • 70% of the world is covered by the oceans
  • 80% of the world’s people live near the oceans
  • 90% of all international trade travels on the oceans
  • 95% of all global communications are transported under the oceans

That’s the world America lives in today.  Looking at those numbers, one begins to understand the immense importance of ensuring the freedom of the oceans with capable and effective sea services.  Since America’s Navy began with only six frigates, American sea power has been essential to countering threats, winning wars and furthering the interests of peace and prosperity worldwide.  Today one of those first six frigates that 200 years ago fought in the War of 1812, the USS Constitution, is still a commissioned ship in the United States Navy.  See more about the history of the United States Navy (USN) and the original six frigates on Veteran Owned Business’s military tribute section.

Ultimately, the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is a salute to all of our Sailors and Marines who fought so gallantly against great odds in that conflict, in all of our nation’s conflicts between then and now, and those who are today defending freedom around the world – from the mountains of Afghanistan to the coasts of Africa to the Straits of Hormuz – and standing ready to provide compassionate humanitarian aid from Haiti to Japan to wherever catastrophe strikes.  The Navy and Marine Corps and Coast Guard are what they are because of the quality of the people that served over the last 200 years, and the tens of thousands of Sailors and Marines now making sacrifices every day, something that America can be very grateful has not changed over the past 200 years.   See more about the history of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the history of the United State Coast Guard (USCG) on Veteran Owned Business’s military tribute section.

If America remembers the lessons of the naval war of 1812, lessons paid for with the lives of Sailors and Marines, then America can be confident that the nation will always answer Francis Scott Key’s question in the affirmative:

“Oh, say does that that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?”

Beginning in April 2012 and continuing through 2015, the US Navy, US Marine Corps, US. Coast Guard will commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and The Star Spangled Banner. The Navy has partnered with the International Council of Air Shows, the Navy League, the Naval Historical Foundation, and Operation Sail (OpSail) to create world-class events around the country, with signature events in New York, Baltimore, Norfolk, New Orleans, Boston, Chicago, and Cleveland, and smaller events in other cities.  Be sure to support a veteran owned restaurant or bar and enjoy some great food and drinks while you’re out seeing the events!

These events will include Blue Angels air shows, visits by ships of the US Navy and international navies, parades of tall ships and “Galley Wars†cook off events.  See an interactive map of Bicentennial events, a list of United States Military Holidays and Observances, and a flyer showing dates and locations to learn more about participating in the commemoration.

April is Month of the Military Child | Special Program Created to Support Our Military Kids!

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Veteran Owned Business proudly supports Month of the Military Child:

The Month of April offers us a special opportunity to acknowledge and honor the service of our littlest heroes, our military children.   Established by Caspar Weinberger, the Month of the Military Child recognizes the important role military children play in our communities.

  • There are approximately 1.9 million military children, ranging in ages from newborn to 18 years old, 1.3 million military children are school-aged.
  • 765,000 of our military children have Active duty parents, and approximately 225,000 have a parent who is currently deployed.
  • More than 700,000 children have experienced the deployment of one or more parents since 2001.

(U.S. Army Photo)

Our military children are resilient and proud of their service, and they deserve our support.   The Department of Defense, each of our Armed Services, Cabinet Agencies, the White House Joining Forces Initiative, as well as non-profits, businesses and communities throughout the country recognize this and have stepped up to provide a variety of special programs, initiatives and activities  for our military kids.  To learn more, visit some of the links below.

  • The Department of Defense provides a wealth of resources and support for parents and military kids.  Parents can find information on education, child care, and exceptional family member support on Military Homefront and MilitaryOneSource.  Military kids can find tips on moving and adapting to a new town and school on DoD’s Military Youth on the Move site.  Additionally, the newly launched DoD hosted Military Kids Connect site lets military kids connect with each other in a safe online environment and share their experiences.
  • Military kids who love to read can share their favorite book by participating in the Blue Star Families Books on Bases Essay Contest. Blue Star Families is also recognizing all military children throughout April with certificates of appreciation. If you have a military child in your life you would like to thank, you can get a certificate here.
  • Reading creates a special bond between parents and children, and United Through Reading makes it possible to maintain that bond even through deployment, by providing children with DVDs of their deployed parent reading their favorite books.

(U.S. Air Force Photo)

Like all kids, military kids look forward to summer and all the fun times the season brings.  Many military children will likely experience a move,  but no matter where they are, plenty of great opportunities for adventure await!  The National Military Family Association’s (NMFA) Operation Purple Camps empower military children and their families to develop and maintain healthy and connected relationships with incredible outdoor experiences.  The application deadline is in April.  NMFA also provides unique retreats for children of wounded warriors.  Likewise, the Armed Services YMCA salutes our military kids in April and all year round with a variety of youth programs.

For children of Reservists, Guard Members and wounded warriors, Our Military Kids provides grants to pursue a variety of extracurricular activities.   This month some of these kids will get a chance to showcase the talents they have acquired before Senior Officials and Members of Congress in Washington at the annual “Celebration of Our Military Kids’ Star Power.â€

  • Military kids have some great fans in sports…the San Diego Padres will honor military children at a home game as part of their military appreciation program, which honors service members and their families throughout the season. Likewise, the Washington Nationals and USO Metropolitan Washington team up to bring military kids to the ballpark through the “Me and a Friend†program.  The U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) wants to help keep military kids active and moving. They offer free USTA memberships for military kids under 10.
  • Coping with a wounded parent, or worse, the loss of a parent is one of the sad realities of military life and these are circumstances many of our military kids have had to face over 10 years of conflict.  To support military children through these experiences, Sesame Workshop has developed the Talk, Listen and Connect Series.  Military children on installations throughout the country and the world can see Sesame Street when they hit the road on their annual tour with the USO.  For a tour schedule, visit the USO’s Sesame Street/USO Experience page.
  • The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) offers comfort to military children whose parents have made the ultimate sacrifice  through their Good Grief Camps, which teach kids how to cope with loss and connect with others to share experiences.  To ensure our children of the fallen have educational opportunities, organizations like the Freedom Alliance provide scholarships for military kids who have lost a parent in combat.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day March 30th, 2012 | Veteran Business Owners PSA

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Attention Veteran Owned Business Members and Visitors:

This coming March 30th the nation will  observe “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day”.  March 30th marks the historic withdrawal of United States troops from Vietnam on March 30, 1973.  Please join Veteran Owned Business, our members, families and friends as we pay tribute to the valiant service of Vietnam War and Vietnam-Era Veterans.

All around our great nation there will be celebrations and opportunities to thank the veterans of the Vietnam War and also provide them with the welcoming that many did not receive at the completion of their noble service to our country. It is important and fitting that our nation recognizes the brave service men and women who made profound sacrifices in the Vietnam War including the more than 58,000 Americans who lost their lives and the more than 300,000 who were wounded during the Vietnam War.

While we’d love to list all the activities taking place on “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day”, we unfortunately do not have the time it would take to list everything out.  Please take a moment and contact your local VFW, American Legion, DAV, Veterans Services Offices and/or other military organization for a list of events in your area.  You can also search Google and other search engines for events in your area.

Here’s more information about this great event:

Sen. Burr Introduces Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Resolution; Legislation honors service members who fought in Vietnam

Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, introduced a resolution to honor veterans who served in Vietnam by  designating March 30th as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.” March 30th marks the anniversary of the day that combat and combat support units withdrew completely from South Vietnam.

“Our soldiers served honorably and bravely in Vietnam.  Unfortunately, they arrived home to a country in political turmoil, and never received the recognition they deserve,” Senator Burr said. “By setting March 30th aside as a day to focus on our Vietnam veterans, we can show our unified gratitude for their service and the sacrifices that these veterans made on our behalf.”

Senator Burr today also encouraged communities throughout the country to take measures to commemorate this day by honoring Vietnam veterans in their area. This is the second consecutive year that Senator Burr has introduced a resolution for the establishment of “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.” Senators John Boozman (R-AR), Thad Cochran (R-MS), James Inhofe (R-OK), and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) co-sponsored the legislation.

The United States became involved in Vietnam because policy-makers believed that if South Vietnam fell to a communist government, communism would spread throughout the rest of Southeast Asia.  The US Armed Forces began serving in an advisory role to the South Vietnamese in 1961, and in 1965, ground combat troops were sent into Vietnam.  After many years of combat, all US troops were withdrawn from Vietnam on March 30, 1973, under the terms of the Treaty of Paris. More than 58,000 members of the United States Armed Forces lost their lives and more than 300,000 were wounded in Vietnam.

Democratic National Convention Committee and Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee Announce Diversity Contracting Policy

CHARLOTTE—The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and the Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee today announced that they have adopted a diversity contracting policy for the 2012 Democratic National Convention that represents unprecedented progress toward both the inclusion and use of diverse businesses.  The diversity contracting policy is in addition to practices that have been operational since the inception of both organizations to increase the participation of diverse businesses.

The policy states that the DNCC has a goal of spending at least one third of its aggregate dollars with Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), Women Business Enterprises (WBEs), Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses for its contracts and projects.

“I am proud of the major steps we are taking to further strengthen our commitment to diversity at the DNC and 2012 convention,†said Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.  “Our party values economic inclusion and shared prosperity and I believe that this groundbreaking effort will increase opportunity for all.â€

“Never before has a host committee or a convention committee dedicated the resources and effort to diversity contracting at the levels we see here,†said Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, Co-chair of the Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee.  “Not only will the 2012 Democratic National Convention stand as a model for the inclusion and utilization of diverse businesses, but it will have a lasting impact on this community and the surrounding region for years to come.â€

“The DNCC is committed to ensuring the growth and success of underrepresented entrepreneurs,†said Steve Kerrigan, CEO of the DNCC. “We believe our diversity policy and practices are consistent with our mission and they reflect the importance that our stakeholders place on the development of minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, LGBT-owned and disability-owned businesses in their communities.â€

In October, the Democratic Party hired a Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) to advise the party and the convention on diversity staffing and procurement.  One of the CDO’s first tasks was to work with the convention committee and the host committee on a diversity contracting policy.

In addition, the DNCC and the Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee put tools and systems in place early on to maximize the inclusion and utilization of diverse businesses.  They include:

  • A robust vendor directory, established in August 2011, that is the sole source for 2012 Democratic National Convention contracts and subcontracts.  It allows businesses to self-identify as certified MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses or Veteran-Owned Businesses.  All companies that wish to do business with the Host Committee or the DNCC must register through the vendor directory.
  • Business outreach program and staff to implement adequate sourcing mechanisms for convention contractors to assist in identifying MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses.
  • Regional outreach and public information forums to inform and prepare businesses for economic opportunities around the convention.
  • Fully integrated efforts toward diverse spending.  Vendors are asked to help the DNCC meet its goal in the RFP and contract process through:
  • Diverse spending plans—Vendors must develop and provide a diversity utilization plan that would maximize the participation of MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses (including subcontractors where applicable) in the provision of goods and services for which the vendor will be responsible.  The DNCC considers the plan submitted by vendor as an important factor in evaluating responses to RFPs and awarding contracts with the DNCC.
  • Efforts Toward Diverse Spending—Each contract awarded will require the vendor to make efforts to contract with MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses for the provision of goods and services for which the vendor is responsible as a means of assisting the DNCC to meet its one third diverse spend goal.
  • Diverse spending reporting—Each contract awarded by the DNCC will require vendors to provide bi-weekly reports to the DNCC detailing participation by MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses as a means of assisting the DNCC to meet the one third diverse spend goal.

Below is the DNCC Diversity Contracting Policy:

DNCC DIVERSITY POLICY

Since its inception, it has been the practice of the DNCC to provide equal opportunity to all business enterprises to participate in all aspects of the DNCC’s contracting and purchasing programs without regard to race, creed, age, sex, national origin, ethnic identity, physical or mental disability, veteran status, marital status, economic status, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected basis. The DNCC has and will continue to conduct outreach and informational programs with constituent groups, businesses, and trade associations to prevent discrimination against any person or business enterprise on the basis of any of these factors.

Recognizing that some individuals, groups and business enterprises, including Minority Business Enterprises, Women Business Enterprises, Disability-Owned Business Enterprises, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses, have not historically received opportunities to participate equally in contracting opportunities and to ensure and reaffirm the DNCC’s continuing commitment to progress and success in achieving the goal of equal opportunity, the DNCC adopts the following diversity policy:

“Disability-Owned Business†means a business enterprise which is Owned and Operated by one or more persons with disabilities.

“LGBT-Owned Business†means a business enterprise which is Owned and Operated by one or more gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (“LGBTâ€) persons.

“Minority Business Enterprise†or “MBE†means a business enterprise which is Owned and Operated by one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American / Pacific Islander and Native American.

“Owned and Operated†means (1) the business enterprise is at least 51% owned by one or more of the respective diversity groups, or in the case of any corporations, limited liability companies or partnerships, at least 51% of the voting stock or interests, as applicable, is owned by one or more of the respective diversity groups and (2) the management and daily business operations of the business enterprise are controlled by one or more of the respective diversity groups.
“Women Business Enterprise†or “WBE†means a business enterprise which is Owned and Operated by one or more women.

“Veteran-Owned Business†means a business enterprise which is Owned and Operated by one or more veterans.

An MBE, WBE, Disability-Owned Business, LGBT-Owned Business or Veteran-Owned Business may establish its qualification by providing to the DNCC:

  • Its certification status from a federal, state or local governmental agency; or
  • Its certification from a third-party certifier (e.g. the Minority Supplier Diversity Council, National Women Business Owners Corporation, US Business Leadership Network, etc.); or
  • Documentation that would enable the Chief of Staff of the DNCC to verify that the vendor qualifies. This third method is designed to cover those vendors who are easily verifiable, such as sole proprietorships, small partnerships, closely-held corporations and small company that do not engage in significant government business or do not have the resources to seek a governmental or third-party certification.

The DNCC has a goal of spending at least one third of its aggregate dollars with MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses and Veteran-Owned Businesses for its contracts and projects.

It is the policy of the DNCC to provide minorities, women, persons with disabilities, LGBT persons and veterans equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of contracting and purchasing programs, including but not limited to participation in procurement contracts for materials, supplies and equipment, and contracts for construction.

It is further the policy of the DNCC to prohibit discrimination against any person or business enterprise on the basis of race, color, ethnic identity, sex, creed, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, veteran status, marital status, economic status, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected status, and to conduct its contracting and purchasing programs so as to prevent such discrimination.

It is the policy of the DNCC in concert with the Host Committee or other local, state and federal agencies and with the assistance of minority, women, persons with disabilities, LGBT and veteran groups and agencies, actively to seek and identify qualified MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses, and Veteran-Owned Businesses, and to offer them the opportunity to participate, and to encourage them to participate, in contracting and purchasing programs.

It is not the policy of the DNCC to provide information or other opportunities to MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses, or Veteran-Owned Businesses that will not be available to all other business enterprises. It is the intent of this policy to establish procedures designed to assure MBEs, WBEs, Disability-Owned Businesses, LGBT-Owned Businesses, and Veteran-Owned Businesses access to information and opportunities available to other business enterprises. It is the intent of this policy to widen opportunities for participation, to increase competition, and to reduce costs.

The DNCC will award contracts without regard to race, religion, color, ethnic identity, creed, national origin, sex, age, physical or mental disability, veteran status, marital status, economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected status. The DNCC will award contracts to the bid that best meets the requirements of the DNCC.  Neither the DNCC nor the Host Committee is bound to accept the lowest offer or any tender submitted.
