Veteran Owned Business Supports Military Spouse Appreciation Day by Accepting Spouse of Veteran and/or Active Duty Owned Businesses
New system function now allows site visitors to search business member profiles by “Military Spouse Owned“
Melbourne, Florida – May 11, 2012 – VeteranOwnedBusiness.com, the most comprehensive, user friendly resource of businesses owned by veterans, active duty military, reservists and service disabled veterans, today celebrates Military Spouse Appreciation Day. For more than two hundred years, our freedoms have been protected by the brave Americans who have born a uniform and sworn an oath to safeguard the principles upon which our country was founded. Our Nation’s military spouses also make tremendous sacrifices and provide great service four our country. Moving from duty station to duty station, surviving the strains of deployment, wherever and whenever their country asks, supporting our wounded warriors at home and abroad, our military spouses have become a vital part of our community. In conjunction with this announcement, VeteranOwnedBusiness.com has added Spouse of Veteran and Spouse of Active Duty classifications to the directory.
VeteranOwnedBusiness.com was released online on Veteran’s Day 2008 and has received several million unique visitors and nearly 20 million page views. Site users include purchasing personnel from small businesses, government agencies and some of our country’s largest corporations. The easy to use interface also allows the average consumer a quick way to search for products and services that are all unique in the fact that they are made by, serviced by and/or sold by United States military veterans.
“While not viewed as important as VOB/SDVOSB with government procurement personnel or prime contractors, adding these businesses to our Veteran Owned Business Community is an easy way to show support for what is arguably the 2nd most important job in the military.” said Brian K. St.Ours, VeteranOwnedBusiness.com’s Founder and President. “Our team is very excited to expand the benefits the Veteran Owned Business resource provides to these deserving businesses. If we can help even just one Spouse Owned Business keep their doors open during these very trying economic times or reduce the stress upon one soldier in uniform, it will have all been worth it!”
Membership in VeteranOwnedBusiness.com is absolutely free. Qualifying companies get a detailed online company profile including contact information, directions with a detailed mapping system, product/service description, link to the company’s website and more. Each member’s listing is integrated into VeteranOwnedBusiness.com’s robust search system so each company, product and/or service can be found geographically, by category and even within a certain radius of a zip code.
Veterans, active duty military, reservists and especially service disabled veterans who own a business are encouraged to visit VeteranOwnedBusiness.com for more information and to sign up for their company’s free business membership.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day 2012 Discounts, Freebies, Coupons and More:

A quick note about Military Spouses Day:
Military Spouse Appreciation Day was created by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. It was Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger who established that the Friday before Mother’s Day be Military Spouses Day. Military Spouse Day was created to honor the spouses of those who serve in our country’s military (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard or Coast Guard).
While as of right now many businesses do not offer special discounts, freebies or coupons specifically for Military Spouse Appreciation Day, it is our goal to get this changed for future Military Spouse Appreciation Day events. Please be careful with any discounts you see specifically for Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Please do your due diligence prior to purchasing anything (especially online).

Armed Forces Week is traditionally scheduled to coincide with Armed Forces Day and offers an opportunity for our community to express its gratitude to the military for their dedication and service to the nation. Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May. Armed Forces Week begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May, the day after Armed Forces Day. Because of their unique training schedules, National Guard and Reserve units may celebrate Armed Forces Day/Week over any period in May; which is National Military Appreciation Month. Armed forces week serves to increase public understanding of the role of the military in a democratic society as well as honor and acknowledge the people of the Armed Forces of the United States.
Various armed forces week celebrations:
Milwaukee Armed Forces Week:
Milwaukee Armed Forces Week is a joint effort of the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee, comprised of members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, as well as Milwaukee area citizens. Events include: VIP Night, Military Displays of the 128th Air Refueling Wing, Breakfasts, Lunches, and Dinners, as well as a Civic Dinner Dance, golf outing, and finally an Annual Support the Troops Ride & Ceremony. For more information, see the Milwaukee Armed Forces Week website.
Colorado Springs Chamber’s Armed Forces Week:
Colorado Springs’ celebration is one of the largest of its kind in the country and is comprised of two anchor events—a concert and luncheon. During these activities, outstanding enlisted men and women, chosen by their respective services with the three winners selected by the Military Affair’s Council, are honored. The Armed Forces Concert is traditionally held at the Pikes Peak Center in downtown Colorado Springs. The Armed Forces Concert features the United States Air Force Academy Band and the Colorado Springs Chorale, presenting a rendition of inspirational patriotic music and song. In 2010 over 2000 people attended this event. The Armed Forces Luncheon and Award Ceremony at The Broadmoor draws over 900 attendees who gather to honor our area’s top enlisted members. The guest speaker in 2010 was General George W Casey Jr, Chief of Staff of the Army. For more information, contact Brian Binn at brian@cscc.org (719-575-4325) or Rita Pantoya at rita@cscc.org (719-575-4326).
Western New York Armed Forces Week:
Hosted by your United States Air Force as a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Sponsored by the Western New York Armed Forces Week Committee in cooperation with Military, Industrial, Civic, and Veterans’ Organizations. The 52nd Annual WNY Armed Forces Week Opening Ceremony is Sunday, May 6th 2012 at Erie Canal Harbor Adjacent to Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park Featuring Military Color Guards, American Legion Band of the Tonawandas Post 264 and more.
Aberdeen Proving Ground Armed Forces Week:
APG’s Armed Forces Week theme, “Heroes on the Home Front,” recognizes local heroes, both military and civilian. In keeping with the theme, members of the on- and off-post community will be honored as “Hometown Heroes.” ”This gives us a chance to honor our local heroes and recognize them in a public forum,” said Capt. Malikah McCormick, commander, APG Garrison HHC and coordinator for the Armed Forces Week events. She said a hero will be honored at each Armed Forces Week event. To attend Armed Forces Day, visitors without a government ID must use the Maryland Boulevard (Route 715) gate off Route 40 to enter the installation. Visitors age 16 and older must have a photo ID and drivers must present a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration. For more information call the APG Public Affairs Office at 410-278-1151 or 410-278-1147.

As we mark Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to supporting and honoring the husbands, wives, and loved ones of our Nation’s servicemembers.

At the heart of our Armed Forces, servicemembers’ spouses keep our military families on track. They balance family life, military life, and their careers all while supporting other military families and giving back to their communities. Many have served in uniform themselves and, understanding the obligations involved, can provide unparalleled support. They are pillars of strength in their families, often celebrating their children’s life milestones while the other parent is away.
Military spouses also care for our wounded warriors and honor the memory of our Nation’s fallen heroes, including their own loved ones. They impact countless lives on military bases and in schools, places of worship, and neighborhoods across our Nation. Their contributions help protect our freedom by strengthening our communities and our servicemembers.
There are many ways for each of us to show our appreciation for military spouses. Working through community based organizations, workplaces, schools, and places of worship, we can help them support their families, establish or build a career, and address the unique challenges they face.
Veteran Owned Business would especially like to show our support to the many military spouse owned businesses listed in the Veteran Owned Business directory as well as our fans on our military spouse owned business facebook and twitter.

VeteranOwnedBusiness.com is proud to welcome Heroes Place of Washington, DC (District of Columbia County) to the Veteran Owned Business Directory Nonprofit Section.
Heroes Place Details: In 2009, Jesse Moore, a disabled veteran of the Army, participated in sleep with the homeless project with his fraternity. What resulted was an inspired and informative experience that changed his life. He came into contact with several homeless veterans in the Washington, DC area that suffered a lack of support services. He made a vow to them that he would do something to help.
Years later he kept that vow by opening up Heroes Place, Inc. The resource center has had a major impact on the community by providing a safe place for homeless veterans to go and receive a lot of support services to help them gain and remain independent.
