Vendor Outreach Sessions are a series of pre-arranged 15-minute appointments with Small Business Specialists from various components of the Homeland Security procurement offices, plus several Prime Contractors who currently have contracts with DHS. These sessions provide the small business community an opportunity to discuss their capabilities and learn of potential procurement opportunities.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) is partnering with Lockheed Martin (LM) to sponsor a virtual training on how to do business with LM. The training is designed for Small Disadvantage Businesses (SDB) and Small Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses (SDVOSB).  The training topics will be general so that the information can be useful toward doing business with all government prime contractors.

The general topic of the presentation is as follows:

  • The “new reality” of today’s economy w/ focus on affordability, increased productivity
  • LM’s customer base
  • Do your homework before meeting with LM personnel – website, identify target businesses or programs, LM database, etc…
  • How to make initial contact – Elevator Speech and key focus areas
  • Business Card Sense
  • Have financials ready
  • Offer Innovative Solutions
  • Responding to RFQs
  • Time for Questions and Answers will be provided

Registration is self service only and the audience will have the opportunity to ask  questions at the end of the training!

This presentation will arm you with knowledge on how to do business with Lockheed Martin.  As the process is similar with all government contractors, you will attain an understanding as to how to work with all government primes in general.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), in coordination with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), present the 23rd annual High-Tech Small Business Conference on Tuesday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 2, 2011.  The conference site is the Westin Los Angeles Airport Hotel, located at 5400 West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90045.

The conference affords small businesses the opportunity to meet purchasing and technical representatives from major corporations and Federal Agencies (e.g., The Aerospace Corp., The Boeing Co., Computer Sciences Corp., Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon Co., U.S. Dept. of Defense, U.S. Dept. of Transportation, the U.S. Veterans Administration, etc.) to discuss contract opportunities.  Attendees can expect to improve their knowledge and skills in competing in the federal, state government and prime contractor sectors, and also take advantage of several “How- To” workshops.

The Laboratory has successfully coordinated this event for the past 22 years, with an average attendance of 1,200 participants; 300 representatives from the prime contractor/government agency arena and 900 small business owners.

The registration fee is $140.00 per person which includes two continental breakfasts, two lunches, networking receptions, and program materials.  The registration deadline is Friday, February 11.

Room rates are $123.00 single/double occupancy.  Parking fees at the Westin are $12.00 for self-parking and for overnight guests and $28.00 for valet. In-and-out privileges are for overnight hotel guests only.
