I quit high school my junior year and joined the AF. Unlike civilian life, the AF gave me opportunities based on my abilities; instead of (to me) a worthless piece of paper. In less than 8 months I graduated from an advanced school that required 5 years of line experience and NCO rank. I had just turned 18 and was an E3.
