SDVOSB and Veteran Owned Business Member Awarded U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Contract

Congratulation to Veteran Owned Business Member Industria Inc.!

US Army Corps of EngineersThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District awarded a contract for $1.2 million Sept. 30, 2013, to Industria Inc. for ecosystem restoration on 39 acres at Burnham Prairie Annex, one mile south of Chicago.

Industria Inc. is certified as a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business concern.

“Burnham Prairie Annex is a field demonstration project implemented under the Aquatic Plant Control Research Program to evaluate a number of techniques for controlling invasive plants that are degrading the quality and diversity of wetlands and other aquatic habitat around the Great Lakes and nationwide,” said Corps Program Manager Kirston Buczak.

The five-year, firm-fixed-price services contract will include removing invasive plants, performing prescribed burns, planting native species and monitoring the effectiveness of aquatic-plant-control techniques.

Vegetation restoration will focus on removal of significant infestation by several invasive species – primarily reed canary grass and common reed. A community of native wetland plants, primarily sedges, will be planted in their place.

Construction is expected to start December 2013.

Funding for this project is provided by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). GLRI is a multi-agency initiative created by the Obama Administration in 2010. Burnham Prairie Annex will be the 19th restoration project constructed by the Corps with GLRI funding.

The Aquatic Plant Control Research Program is the nation’s only federally-authorized research program directed to develop technology for the management of non-indigenous aquatic plant species. The APCRP annually reviews current and future research efforts to thoroughly evaluate the Corps’ aquatic-plant-management needs and establish priorities for future research.
