State of Connecticut Building Veteran Owned Business Database

State of Connecticut Building Veteran Owned Business Database

Connecticut Economic Resource Center

The state of Connecticut estimates it may be home to over 30,000 businesses owned by U.S. Military Veterans, but the state has no way to identify them. To combat this, Secretary of State Denise Merril and other government and state agency officials are developing a database they hope will develop into a comprehensive list of Connecticut Veteran Owned Small Businesses.

Anne Evans, District Director for the State Commercial Services Division of the Department of Commerce said, “We are here to help companies. Too many times businesses say, ‘What does the government do for us?’ And particularly for the veteran-owned businesses, we just need to know who you are.”

Veteran Owned Businesses would benefit by inclusion in the directory by making it easier for Department of Commerce, the SBA and other federal and state agencies to connect with these businesses about resources and programs, as well as possibly lead to more small business, Veteran Owned, and Service Disabled Veteran owned contracting set asides.
