Comments on the Military and Business Ownership

My military service taught me lessons that have become the foundation of my approach to business—discipline, adaptability, leadership under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to mission success. In the military, every day demanded clarity of purpose and efficient execution. Those same qualities now guide how I lead teams, make decisions, and manage challenges as a business owner. Discipline is the cornerstone of both military life and entrepreneurship. In uniform, I learned that preparation and consistency are what separate success from failure. Whether it was maintaining equipment, meeting training standards, or supporting my unit’s goals, there was no room for shortcuts. In business, that mindset translates to doing the unglamorous work—following up on small details, meeting deadlines, and showing up for customers and employees with the same consistency every day. Leadership in the military also taught me the value of building trust and empowering others. As an entrepreneur, I’ve found that a business thrives when team members take ownership of their roles the same way soldiers take ownership of the mission. My military experience showed me that leadership isn’t about authority—it’s about service, accountability, and ensuring everyone has the tools and motivation to succeed. That perspective influences how I build my company culture and mentor my team. Adaptability has perhaps been the most transferable lesson. Missions rarely go according to plan.
